I have successfully integrated muPDF into a couple of apps, but be warned: It's GPL, and thus your sources are public. Performance is good, and despite the lack of documentation, it's workable. Anything you do with these sorts of libraries, however, will require more than cursory knowledge of the PDF specs. As far as I know, there's nothing free out there which isn't encumbered by GPL.
